UV pool system benefits

While being a pool owner comes with endless benefits, pool maintenance is typically not seen as one of them. The trade off to maintaining a safe and clear pool is chemicals, and as any pool owner will quickly tell you, chemicals are expensive and in general a hassle.

Heck, just being able to reduce the frequency of trips to the pool store to buy chemicals is something most pool owners would be thrilled with.

Fortunately there is an option.

Imagine if there was a way to reduce the amount of chemicals you use in your pool, which will not only save you money but also allow you to be much more ecologically friendly, while at the same time cut down on the amount of time you spend maintaining your swimming pool?

If all of this sounds like something you would want (and who wouldn’t), you should consider looking into installing a UV light pool system.

UV pool systems use an ultraviolet light to destroy pathogens in your pool water. This helps reduce the need for chemicals including algaecide and chlorine.

Please note that we did not say “eliminate” the need for chemicals, but rather “reduce”. You will still need some chemicals to maintain a safe and property balanced swimming pool.

Here is how it works.

Once your pool water has gone through your swimming pools filtration system, it is then sent through a UV light chamber.

In this chamber the water is exposed to a high intensity UV light which helps destroy up to 99% of the pathogens entering your pool water. These pathogens include all the familiar suspects such as bacteria, algae spores, viruses and other microorganisms. Once these microorganisms have been exposed to the light it destroys their DNA reducing their ability to multiply making them inert and thereby neutralizing them.

This allows you to reduce the amount of chemicals required to keep your pool clean and safe. Many UV users report a reduction in chemical use ranging anywhere from 50% up to 90%, so the reduction is substantial.

The UV light itself is contained inside the systems chamber ensuring you are not exposed to the light. By many measures UV light systems are considered to be one of the safest sanitization options for pool owners. No residual UV will enter your pool as 100% of the sanitization takes place inside the UV chamber itself.

UV systems are very low maintenance, however the lights themselves do  need to be replaced. They are typically rated for 13,000 hours so replacement frequency varies anywhere from about every 12 to 18 months.
