Benefits of a pool safety cover

While it is probably not much of a surprise, we Canada folk only get to enjoy our pools for half of the year. For a bit less than half of the year, our swimming pools are closed for winter.

Naturally these closed swimming pools require covers on them, and when it comes to winter cover options your choices are either tarps held with water bags or pool safety covers.

As most any pool owner can attest, one of the least enjoyable things to do with a pool is open or close it, but as bad as that is, when you combine the misery that dealing with the tarp and water bag system adds to openings and closings, it quickly becomes a task you wouldn’t wish on your worst enemy! (You haven’t lived till you’ve fished all the dirt, debris, leaves, dead worms and stench out of a tarp in spring!)

Here at Hollandia Pools we hold to the goal that some day, in a perfect world, everyone will have a pool safety cover, and the tarps/ water bag combo will become a thing of the past.

Why do we say that?

A number of reasons. We’ll start with the biggest one right off the get go, safety.

There is a reason these covers are referred to as safety covers. When compared to tarps held with water bags, safety covers offer a secure, snug and almost perfect fit.

If a pet or child were to fall into a pool with a properly installed safety cover in place, the odds are it wouldn’t be a big deal.

However if a pet or a child fell into a pool with the tarp and water bags… well that could easily be a tragedy, and at the very least a massive headache and expense.

But there are other advantages these covers offer beyond safety.

Compared to tarps and water bags they are a dream to put on in the fall and they come off much faster in the spring. Safety covers are also faster and easier to clean.

Something else to consider is that pool safety covers, unlike tarps, actually allow water to pass through them. This is a massive cost saver in spring since your pool is already full of water when you remove the cover. Tarp users on the other hand have to throw the hose in the pool for half a day to bring it back up to level (which costs a fortune).

Really when you consider the time savings as well as the fact that you don’t have to fill up half of your pool every year, you’ll quickly find your pool safety cover pays for itself (and then some) soon enough!

The final thing we’ll leave you with to justify getting a safety cover is that they look so much better. Tarp covered pools look like a veritable morass. Safety covers on the other hand almost look amazing by comparison.

So while the choice is yours, in our minds, there is only one logical choice.
